BLOGMAS DAY 17 || THE CHRISTMAS STRESS

Every year I look forward to Christmas. I just feel like it's a really cozy time of the year, all the lights go up, you get to see a lot more of friends and family, and everyone seems that little bit more joyful. It's the most wonderful time of the year, but it can be stressful and put quite some stress on your mental health. I for one find it quiet dooming when I list out all the things I have to buy and prepare, then this year I have set myself the task of doing Blogmas which is an extra added stress as much as I love it.

This year is the first year I have had a proper job and actually been able to afford to spend a little bit more on Christmas and, for some reason, I have added extra pressure to myself to buy loads more presents than what I usually would. My family have never been about giving big expensive gifts, we have always given each other fun little gifts because we enjoy it much more. It's so much more fun when you don't take it too seriously. For some reason this year I seem to have forgotten that and I am taking it way to seriously and stressing myself out. I am creating anxiety for no reason and I need to remind myself of that. That is partly why I am writing this post, to get it out as some kind of reminder for myself and also a reminder for everyone else.

Christmas isn't and shouldn't be about the size and price of the gifts, or about gifts at all. It's ridiculous that we feel the need to get gifts. If you can't afford a gift then you shouldn't feel stressed or upset about it and no one should make you feel like that, if they do then they don't deserve a gift anyway.

Christmas is about being with your family and friends, celebrating the time you have together and enjoying it. A lot of people say they don't like how commercial Christmas is getting but I honestly think that it is only commercial as you let it, you decide how your Christmas goes, not the media. So enjoy, relax and remember to take a deep breathe and tell yourself that it's not life or death and you can get through it.

At the end of the day your family will only want the best for you and they should always understand if you feel like it's too much.
