Getting Out Of a Blog-Life Crisis


Running a blog is hard work, especially if you work full time too. It's not just writing the posts, it's taking the photos, coming up with ideas, testing out products, maintaining the blog, etc... If you blog, you know what I mean.

Having recently gone through a blog-life crisis myself, I thought I'd share a few tips on keeping motivated, and getting back into the flow of things.
I have to admit that one of the biggest things that helped me get back into blogging was Sam. He is always really supportive and incredibly helpful, which helps a lot. He has a blog too, so seeing him sit down and write motivates me to do the same.


When I first fell into my blog-life crisis, I decided to take a break to clear my head and to try and figure out what I wanted to do with my blog as I was feeling a bit lost. My break lasted two or three weeks, then I decided to post whatever I felt like, whenever I felt like it to avoid the pressure of having a schedule to keep to. Doing this made me feel like I was blogging for myself, and helped me write but at the same time it took me a while to actually get back into it fully. Not having a schedule to stick to made me lazy, I just kept putting posts off. So although it helped a bit, it also made it worse.





Having a schedule.

I'd suggest that you try to keep to a schedule even if it's a couple of posts a month or one a week, but just keep some kind of schedule so you don't slip out of the habit of posting. Also keep writing. I had really bad writers block but I tried my best to keep writing even if it was crappy writing, I have a note book full of crappy writing for when I get writers block. Don't get out of the habit or it makes it so much harder to get back into.


Keep in the loop.

I tried my best to stay on social media and interacting with other bloggers. This made me feel like I was still part of the community and that I needed to get my act together, it also helped me come up with a lot of ideas for new posts. When I feel like I'm lacking motivation I'll set aside some time do watch some vlogs and read some blogs, which always helps. Watching other people be productive makes me feel productive for some reason.


Changes.

Making little changes to your blog can also help you get your mojo back. I added things, changed color schemes, deleted things and now I have a completely different look on my blog and I love it. It feels more me, I feel like it represents me more which has made me love it more.
To help you come up with ideas, keep a little note book and a pen with you all the time. I find that writing down any idea that pops into my head then helps when I'm brainstorming. All the small ideas usually add up to something and once you get started, there's no stopping you.



Invest.

Invest in products to try. When I started to get back into it I placed a big order on Very of products that I wanted to try out and review. I took photos of them all at once and then got to trying them, giving me content for loads of new posts.


Beauty sleep.

Make sure you are getting enough rest. I know sometimes it can be tempting to stay up a bit later to get things done or to binge your latest Netflix addiction, but it really doesn't help you. I find that if I go to bed at a reasonable time, I am much more productive and motivated the next day. My brain feels switched on, which means I find it easier to blog and produce content I'm happy with.


Just don't give up. We all go through tough patches with everything, you just need to keep at it. I love blogging and I don't know where I'd be without it or what I'd do with my spare time.

  2. I'm actually stuck in a weird kind of a rut just now, really struggling to come up with ideas I'm happy with or that I think other people will be interested in. I've started writing a few ideas down in a notepad that I'll need to get time to sit and write out, but then I have mediocre photos. I defintely agree that making blog changes helps - I made a few on mine as well and it really helped me for a few weeks!
