Is it worth it? || L'Oreal lip scrub

As someone who suffers from rather dry lips a lot of the time, mainly due to the weather but also due to my love for liquid lipsticks, realising that you could exfoliate your lips was a game-changer for me. If you have dry lips, I'm sure you'll be able to relate - How annoying is it when you have those crusty bits of lip hanging around making your lipstick look all flaky? Very. I exfoliated my lips anyway, but when I spotted the L'Oreal Lip Scrub I wanted to know if actually having a product dedicated to the cause would make any difference or if it was really just a gimmick.
L'Oreal's lip scrub line offers three different scents to chose from, "Melon Breeze", "Berry Blast" or "Peach Twist" - They all sound incredibly sweet so it was difficult to choose one, however, I went for the "Melon Breeze" one. I love a good melon scent, don't you?

These lip scrubs are said to be a sugar scrub that melts into your lips to smooth and moisturize. They are enriched with shea butter for lasting nourishment too, sounds perfect.

The first thing I tend to do when I receive a product is give it a sniff, I don't know why or how I developed this habit but I need to know what they smell like and this once was a dream. The lovely sweet smell of melon made me question how ill I'd get if I ate it. I restrained from eating it though, please don't eat the lip scrub.

Excited to put the L'Oreal lip scrub to the test, I added it to my skincare routine that evening. I was surprised to find how smooth the end of the scrub was, as I thought it would be... well, scrub type. You're not going to exfoliate much off if it's as smooth as can be. So I used it and it didn't seem to do anything at all. Then I ran water over it and rubbed the end off and lo and behold, it became a more of a scrub.

I used it for a few days and didn't really see any benefits to it, it was doing the same thing a normal facial exfoliator would do for my lips. Why would I bother buying a different product that gives me the exact same results?

Another thing that puts me off a bit is how unhygienic I feel it is. I'm wetting the stick and scrubbing my lips with it, only to close it up and use it again the next day. It doesn't seem to actually dry out ever, that can't be good surely?

As always, I'll be honest and I can honestly say that I was not impressed by the L'Oreal lip scrub. It just seems like a gimmick to me, an unhygienic one too. If you're wondering if it's worth it, I'd say save yourself £8.99 and buy their smooth sugar scrub instead. The L'Oreal smooth sugar clear kiwi scrub is for both face and lips, giving you the exact same results.

  2. I didn't know they had this type of product out- i have been interested in looking for something like this but didn't know what brands would be best. The sugar scrub seems like a good option :) i may have to start looking into this, with the winter a good scrub would be helpful for dry skin.
